People have been asking why I started this journey back in April 2009 and what had given me to drive to be successful. Here is the back story:
I have always thought I was overweight, but looking back I was quite fine in high school. I was slightly overweight entering college and gained to solidly overweight. Once I graduated college and moved to Maryland I kept gaining and gaining and gaining. At the age of 27, I encountered some fairly serious health problems. I had a very large blood clot that ran from my left knee to my vena cava (the vein that leads to my heart). Additionally, I had 3 clots in my lungs. I was on blood thinners for 6 months, then taken off. Two months later, I was back in the hospital with 2 more clots in my lungs. I will now likely be on blood thinners for life. I think that these events served to alert me to the fact that even at the tender age of 27, I was not invincible. I don't want to be on blood thinners AND high blood pressure medication or blood thinners AND insulin. So, I got my butt in gear, joined a very expensive gym and pay way too much money for personal training. I have been blessed enough to have people renting my basement this whole time, so I use that money to get healthy. Really, how much is your health worth? I feel amazing and hope to continue this lifestyle for a very long time!
